Abstract

With the expansion of communication technologies and the development of the internet, the pattern of news consumption among the younger generation has undergone fundamental changes. The present study aims to examine the transformation of news consumption patterns from traditional media to online media among university youth. The research method is of a survey type, and the statistical population includes all students of Yazd University in the academic year 2023–2024, of whom 430 were selected through multi-stage cluster sampling. The data collection tool was a researcher-made questionnaire, whose validity was confirmed by experts and reliability verified using Cronbach’s alpha coefficient. The results showed that the tendency to use online news sources among students is significantly higher than traditional media. Moreover, variables such as achievement motivation, satisfaction, personality stability, and habitual behavior played the most significant roles in the inclination toward online news consumption. These findings indicate a fundamental shift in the way young people access and trust news sources.
