Background and purpose: According to the reports of men's violence against women during the Aghd (engagement) period, this research examines the amount of physical violence by men during this period, its causes, consequences, and comparison of violence between married and divorced women. Methodology: The statistical population was 900 people and the statistical sample was 267 divorced and married women who were randomly selected from two counseling centers in Babol city. Findings: 21.9% of women faced physical violence from their partners during the Aghd period; But the experience of violence is 36.1% among divorced women, and 8.4% among married women. Also, 33% of all of the respondents had doubt in Aghd period, in staying with the man forever; which was 52.6% among divorced women, and 13.4% among married women. The number of siblings, financial problems, and family discord are related to the amount of physical violence during the Aghd period. Women who had doubt in staying with the man, and women who divorced, experienced more physical violence during the Aghd period. Results: Based on the social support theory, the number sibling, financial problems, and lack of family discord as factors of social support are related to the level of violence. According to the exchange theory, women who faced violence during the Aghd period, see themselves as a loser by this relationship, then, they doubt in staying with the partner or even get divorced. Therefore, violence during the Aghd period should be considered as a danger sign for family and divorce.
